Bounty from the Garden

How did you spend the 4th 0f July?

I canned tomatoes, peaches and froze okra. The few tomatoes on the left are from our garden but it did so poorly we still had to buy vegetables to use this winter.

A local farm, about 30 minutes from our house, is where we bought the veggies.
The peaches and tomatoes will drop to the bottom of the jars after they cool completely.

Don't look to close, the last piccie is sure to help you gain 10 pounds!! For lunch we had stuffed
bell peppers, lady finger peas, fried squash and okra.

Well, back to the grind, my DD & SIL just brought more jar lids!! My DH said I should add piccies of the peaches and tomatoes.....

UFO Report

I'm linking to Susan at Blackberry Creek Arts. I've mailed my 2011 Santa Swap bag to Utah and can show it next week after my partner receives it on Tuesday. The picture on the right I finished last year for my daughter as part of her Christmas. I enjoy embroidering while my DH is watching TV. If you've been reading my blog - you know I couldn't post without a piccie of a grandchild !! Both of the youngest ones enjoy sewing....

Rain !! Rain !! Rain..

We finally got some rain, so DD, SIL, and lil' angel played in the puddles!!

"You have to hold out your arms and run to the next puddle."

As you can see, when they got finished, their pants were completely wet.

I know I've said this before- but they are doing such a good job raising her. She's very well rounded for a 3 year old, able to hold an adult conversation, and is compassionate for others.

Last Sunday, we had our Father's Day celebration and she helped her mom clean house. Her job was to dust and clean the glass coffee table and end tables. They were as clean as if an adult had done the job. When DD was home she said I worked her like a Hebrew slave, now she's teaching the lil' angel.
A little while ago, I was at their house and she was mopping the floor. She likes a clean house but hasn't exactly learned the tact of telling others they need to clean their house, which has caused her mom some unsettling moments. LOL... (DD ALWAYS tried to embarass me, either in fun or talking to loud. -- what is it -- you reap what you sow...)

I mailed my Santa Swap bag today -- my partner lives in Utah. I took a picture but will have to show it next week after Jill (appleavenuequilts.blogspot) receives the mail.

Happy 4th of July to my blogging friends -- have a safe and blessed weekend.

The first tomatoes

The first tomatoes of the season ----- don't look too hard at our pitiful garden. The southern drought hasn't been good for gardens and we've had to use well water every day just to sustain the plants. Just look at the lil' Angel, she's cuter..

" Look, Grammie, it's red.....there's 2 of them !!

"There's more, not red yet...almost"

Now she's checking all the plants..

Looking for watermelons...."they're not big yet.."

Memorial Day

Pray for our soldiers and peace,
Be proud,
Be thankful...

The dog tags and various service medals she's holding belong to family members who have served in the Armed Forces. They played taps at church today and even as I write this, it brings tears to my eyes. Many family members, their families and friends have given the United States so much of themselves and it makes me so proud to have been a daughter and wife to "our" soldiers. So many Americans don't know the sacrifices that's been made for them to have their freedoms.

Happy Memorial Day to my blogging friends and
May God Bless America!!

(the pictures are of our youngest grandchild, her parents are so thoughtful and she is blessed to have them..... do I sound prejudice?)

Blogger and Canning Veggies

I've worked for over an hour trying to download pictures from my camera chip!! I'd like to show you some new photos and my DH would like to add some to his blog....

Anyway, I've been canning green beans and yellow crookneck squash. My dad got them yesterday from a friend and my goal this year is to make sure ALL my jars are filled with vegetables...it sure would be nice if there was some way of canning watermelon. haha

Update: Uncle Homer

Uncle Homer is now an angel living in heaven with God. He passed away in his sleep last night. We're all sad to see him go but we know he is in Heaven and that is comforting knowing we'll meet again someday. Please keep Aunt Nell and our family in your prayers.

Missing in Action?? God works in mysterious ways.

I really haven't been missing in action - it's just been such an emotional rollercoaster at our house.

(This picture always makes me cry.)

On Saturday, April 30, Uncle Homer's (the man in the above picture) daughter called and said he wanted to see his brother, Oscar - who lives 70 miles north of us, so in an effort to abide by his wishes, we called him. At that time he decided he would wait until Monday, May 2, to go to Fla. On Sunday, May 1, our DD & SIL traveled to see Uncle Homer. Upon their arrival, she texted me and said we needed to come right now! DH called his parents, they arrived at our house and we all went to Fla. In Alabama, only 40 minutes away from Homer & Nell's, we stopped for a bite to eat and get gas. DH drove past the gas station Oscar wanted to use and he asked him to turn around. DH pumped the gas, Oscar went in to pay, had paid, I went in to get water, and as he was coming across the lot he was struck by a Rendevous SUV and was knocked to the ground. So..... after the police and EMT's got there it was decided he needed to go to the hospital and be checked, mostly because he takes coumadin and there may have been internal bleeding. After a CT scan and xrays, it was determined to admit him for observation - when his head hit the pavement his brain went bak and forth and had caused bleeding in the forehead area. They also discovered his hemoglobin was extremely low and gave him 2 pints of plasma. That's what I mean, God works in mysterious ways -- Oscar wasn't going to his doctor until Thurs of this week and apparently he should not have waited that long. DD and SIL had already returned home and when they were told, decided to come to Al the next morning. We went on to Homer & Nell's, leaving DH to care for his dad and mom. The hospital released Oscar on Monday afternoon (only because of the circumstances) and they continued on to FL. His arm was bandaged and we all were concerned Homer would realize he had been in an accident while he was trying to come visit him. The visit went well, we returned home on Monday night and DH and parents returned on Tuesday.
It was such a strange sequence of events and God had to have had a hand in all of it. Praise the Lord, Oscar wasn't hurt any worse than he was. He's 85 years old, still is able to get aropund well, cuts his own grass, and would have been miserable if he wasn't able to do as he pleases.

Thank you my blogging frriends and please continue to keep us all in your prayers.
